Note To Self: Moses and Ponds don’t mix.

This weekend, I was at Jay’s house with the puppies. I was standing outside with Jay’s mom talking and watching the dogs run laps around the yard. They have a small man-made pond in their backyard that goes with the new landscaping. Morgan, their schnoodle, often drinks out of the pond. Merlot (6 months old) sees Morgan do it, and she has started to drink out of the pond too. Moses does everything that his sister does.

We walked over to look at the pond and chat. We stood looking at it, the pond at our feet.

I began to say, “My only worry is that Moses is going to try to take a drink and fall in it.” Moses’ coordination has not fully developed yet and he is extremely clumsy. Mrs. Deise nodded her head in agreement.

To make things even more interesting, they have just placed a honeycomb net over the pond to trap leaves that may fall in throughout the season. So this net floats about four-five inches under the surface of the water.

Just as I was about to say, “And if he did fall in, he wouldn’t be able to swim because his paws would get caught in the netting…”, Moses came stumbling clumsily through our feet. He bent down to take a drink from the pond. And WHOOSH! Dove NOSE-FIRST into the pond, completely submerged. It all happened so fast. My motherly instincts kicked in, I immediately grabbed him out by the skin of his puppy-neck and placed the sopping-wet pup on the concrete.

I thought he was going to freeze to death from the cold water and then being in the cold air. I ran into the house to get a towel. I came back out and cuddled him up. I think he was in shock.

Thank God we were standing right there when it happened…but how ironic….

Normally his awkward clumsiness amuses me to no end (as he is the most awkwardly clumsy puppy I’ve ever met), but this time – it scared me to death!

MAN, WHAT A SCARE! I still can’t believe it happened…

Note To Self: never underestimate Moses’ clumsiness.

Sleeping with long dogs...

For those of you who don't know already, I am dog-sitting Bella, my parent's dachshund for the week while they travel to new york. It has been going smoothly so far, but let me just say - you try taking out THREE dachshunds to go potty in 40 degree weather! Needless to say, it is not easy ; - )

But, with the challenges comes the perks. Like never getting cold in the middle of the night. And never, EVER being alone. ; - ) That being said, for your viewing pleasure, I have made a chalk outline of what my body looks like while sleeping at night - and where each little dachshund was (mind you, these are just filler images, I have yet to capture the real thing in an actual photo) around me while we all slept in the bed together...
Moses was tucked under my right arm laying on his back - as that is his favorite sleeping position - and using my bicep as a pillow. Merlot was tucked snugly between my legs and Bella was glued to my left side all night.

If I moved, they moved with me. If I rolled over, they would each stretch out until at least one part of their body was touching me. Each one wanted to be touching me in some way ALL night. No exceptions.

It was like having three little personal heaters isolating each part of my body, never letting me get even close to being cold.
It was the WARMEST night of sleep I have ever had. ; - )
I recommend it to everyone.

Happy tails,
Bridget

Merlot's homecoming...

Making sure she is comfy.
Merlot, knocked out from drugs.

She even slept through Moses licking her face.
Moses was so sad that Merlot was not feeling well.
He kept licking her and jumping up to make sure she was still breathing.

Tis the season!

I'm sorry I couldn't get this up sooner, but I wanted to show everyone. My VERY beautiful and VERY talented Aunt Arlene quilted this table runner/wall hanging for me, and it goes perfect with my new Frosted Pumpkin Yankee Candle (compliments of Mrs. Deise)!
Look at that detail and color!Doesn't it look great on my table!? Be jealous.
(Puppies were playing in the background when I took these pictures!)
Tis the season for oranges!

i sure miss her...

Just so everyone knows, I do have a life outside dachshunds. This is it:

she survived...

Poor Merlot.
I dropped her off at the vet this morning for her spaying. The doctor sedated her and asked me to stay with her until she fell asleep from the medicine. It was the saddest thing I have ever had to do. I cried. I know this is for the better, and it has to be done, but it doesn't make it any less sad.
; - (
She finally fell asleep and turned into dead weight in my arms.
The doctor took her, all wrapped up in her pink baby blankey, to the back room to sit in a crate until she was ready to go into surgery.
Well, 1:30 p.m., the doctor finally called me and said she is out of surgery and "sitting up". I said, "oh great! She's awake?" and he answered, "She's sitting up."
I hope that is good.
Jay is picking her up from the vet this afternoon. We made a basket for her over the weekend (to pick her up in).
My poor baby...

daily ramblin'

There is not a whole lot going on this week besides my media dinner events last night and tonight at RA Sushi. Last night, I got to try the Coconut Creme Brulee. And let me just say, YUM. I highly recommend it. I also got to try the spicy octopus and cucumber salad that had me waking up at 3AM with heartburn radiating in my knee caps. It was delicious though, I can't deny. (Note to self: take a Tums before eating spicy octopus.)

This morning I took it upon myself to bake my first quiche. The whole time I was thinking, "this is going to turn into soup; this will never work." But, low and behold, it turned out beautifully. Well, yes, it did set the smoke alarm off again and scared the dickens out of Merlot, but it was quite tasty. (For those of you who don't know, 3 minutes into turning my oven on ALWAYS sets off my smoke alarm...I've learned to accept it.)

In other news, Merlot is getting spayed on Monday. I am somewhat worried. She is just so small...

This weekend I have absolutely no plans, which will be a nice change of pace. And next week, Here comes Bayluh, Here comes Bayluh! I am babysitting Bella while mom and dad travel to New York.

A good week to all and to all a good week.

Bridget Marie

home at last...

Playing on the trampoline: (Moses, left; Merlot, middle; Bella, right)

Moses playing hide and seek in the fall leaves!

Bath Time Nursery Rhyme:

Three little dachshunds,

taking a bath,

One got his head wet,

the other ones laughed!

One ran across da tub and tried to escape,

another one dried off and got a fluffy new shape.

After baf time ended,

three dogs were clean.

They all went to take a nap,

because they ran out of steam.

Bath Time!: Moses getting a bath. He was so darn cute doing the doggy paddle!

Dachshund Party: Me with Bella (top), Merlot (middle) and Moses (bottom).

Merlot yawns in every picture, it's her signature smile.
