We walked over to look at the pond and chat. We stood looking at it, the pond at our feet.
I began to say, “My only worry is that Moses is going to try to take a drink and fall in it.” Moses’ coordination has not fully developed yet and he is extremely clumsy. Mrs. Deise nodded her head in agreement.
To make things even more interesting, they have just placed a honeycomb net over the pond to trap leaves that may fall in throughout the season. So this net floats about four-five inches under the surface of the water.
Just as I was about to say, “And if he did fall in, he wouldn’t be able to swim because his paws would get caught in the netting…”, Moses came stumbling clumsily through our feet. He bent down to take a drink from the pond. And WHOOSH! Dove NOSE-FIRST into the pond, completely submerged. It all happened so fast. My motherly instincts kicked in, I immediately grabbed him out by the skin of his puppy-neck and placed the sopping-wet pup on the concrete.
I thought he was going to freeze to death from the cold water and then being in the cold air. I ran into the house to get a towel. I came back out and cuddled him up. I think he was in shock.
Thank God we were standing right there when it happened…but how ironic….
Normally his awkward clumsiness amuses me to no end (as he is the most awkwardly clumsy puppy I’ve ever met), but this time – it scared me to death!
MAN, WHAT A SCARE! I still can’t believe it happened…
Note To Self: never underestimate Moses’ clumsiness.
